President Emeritus Carl V. Patton was president of Georgia State University from July 1,1992 until Dec. 31, 2008.
With his expertise as an academic leader and urban planner, Patton helped Georgia State develop long-range and short-term plans during his tenure for academic and research achievements and campus growth. "We're working," Patton once said, "to make Georgia State a fully incorporated downtown presence with students learning, working and living in the downtown community."
His basic equation for a great university — outstanding faculty and staff, talented students and high quality modern teaching facilities — took shape in the heart of Atlanta, as the city was becoming one of the country's most vital metropolitan areas.
