Dear Panther Family,
There’s something truly inspiring about being in a room filled with passionate, driven students ready to share their work with the world. At this year’s Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, it was my pleasure to meet the enthusiastic finalists before they took the stage.
The 3MT Competition is an excellent opportunity for student researchers to provide an “elevator pitch” that unlocks their ideas for the world to see. I was incredibly impressed with each finalist’s ability to share such complex ideas in only 3-minutes. In today’s fast-paced world, the ability to convey ideas in a concise and easy to digest way is an important communications skill in academia, in industry, or in everyday life. Additionally, this competition is a critical part of our research mission here at Georgia State. For 25 years, we have had the privilege of being designated a Research-1 university by the Carnegie Foundation and we continue to be ranked amount the top 5 universities in the nation for innovation by the U.S. News & World Report.
Thank you to the esteemed panel of judges: GSU First Lady Dr. Bridget Blake, Dr. Carrie Manning, Dr. Sarah Gershon, and Dr. Tim Denning. Thank you, Dean Jeff Steely and the team in the University Library for graciously providing competition prizes each year.
Congratulations again to all finalists and winners. I personally look forward to the groundbreaking work GSU researchers will produce and communicate to the world.
