Dear Panther Family,
I hope you all had a restful holiday break and that you are ready for the new year! Whether you are returning to campus or starting your journey with us, as President I want to personally welcome you back for an exciting and productive spring 2025 semester.
This spring, don’t forget to take advantage of the variety of academic resources offered on each of our 6 campuses. From tutoring to academic advising and career services, these essential resources are available to help you stay on track and thrive.
We will kick off the semester with an array of exciting events. While you are taking a healthy break from your studies, I encourage you to make time to attend events on campus. Our Men’s Basketball team has had three straight wins! Let’s come out to support our Panthers as they take on Marshall on Thursday, January 23rd and James Madison on Saturday, January 25th at the GSU Convention Center. During the week of January 20th, the university will host our annual MLK Commemoration, which will include a MLK Day of Service, a vision board party, commemoration brunch, leadership lunch & learn, and a MLK 3 v 3 basketball tournament.
Navigating college life can feel overwhelming at times, so I will share a bit of practical tips to help you along the way. First, start by setting clear goals for the semester by writing them down to help keep track of your progress and stay motivated. Next, stay organized. Use your planners or calendar app to keep track of assignment deadlines, exams, and events. Lastly, use your network. It’s not only great to take advantage of university resources, but also connect with your network of professors and peers. Ask your professors questions and take advantage of their office hours when needed. And network with your fellow classmates. At times, you may find it more advantageous to study with a group instead of individually. Success takes time and that’s perfectly okay. What matters most is staying consistent and intentional. Remember to set goals, stay organized, and use your resources and network to capitalize on every opportunity to grow academically, personally, and professionally. Have a wonderful and productive semester!
All the best,
