Dear Panther Family,
The RISE Success Forum 2024 was a wonderful evening celebrating our most productive and award-winning researchers. The Research Innovation and Scholarly Engagement (RISE) Challenge was one of our administration’s first initiatives with a strategic goal to support transformative and innovative research.
As one of the largest and most diverse R1 institutions in the nation, Georgia State has a unique opportunity to address complex challenges in our society. In just 3 years since its inception, and with a $2.5 million investment in signature research areas, the RISE Challenge has resulted in more than $45 million in new research proposals, new books, journal articles, and scholarly work.
As we implement our strategic plan, Blueprint to 2033, with nearly 53,000 students across our 6 campuses, Georgia State will continue to excel in conducting innovative research, scholarship, and creative activities. To accomplish this, we will continue to employ new programs and initiatives, even if that means elevating initiatives we have already established. This is certainly the case for the RISE Challenge.
At the conclusion of the celebration I was honored to announce the next phase of the RISE Challenge—the new Advancing Research Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (ARISE) Challenge, which will launch in 2025.
The ARISE Challenge at GSU will foster groundbreaking research through interdisciplinary collaboration, empowering researchers to achieve transformative discoveries and enhance quality of life for all. Through the ARISE Challenge, GSU seeks to advance scientific and scholarly knowledge while translating these findings into practical societal benefits. Look out for additional information about ARISE early next year.
I would like to thank Donald Hamelberg our Interim VP for Research and Economic Development and Nicolle Parsons-Pollard our Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, for their incredible leadership and dedication to our students and the university. To the many scholars conducting groundbreaking work at GSU, you are doing a phenomenal job and as president, I’m incredibly proud of you all!
All the best,
