Dear Panther Family,
One of the joys of living in a vibrant city like Atlanta is having an opportunity to encounter many trailblazers who have broken barriers and built new pathways in incredible ways. Herman J. Russell Sr. left a remarkable legacy of entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and a tremendous impact on Atlanta, the state of Georgia, and beyond. This is why I’m excited to celebrate the 35th Annual Four Pillar Tribute on October 10, 2024. During this prestigious event, the Council for Quality Growth will honor the legacy of Herman J. Russell Sr., and the work carried on by his children, Donata Russell Ross, H. Jerome Russell and Michael Russell Sr. I’m truly grateful to count Jerome and Michael as personal friends and invaluable allies in the city. Additionally, Jerome and Michael are proud Panther alumni and Georgia State couldn’t be prouder to call them our own!
Starting from humble beginnings in Atlanta, Herman J. Russell Sr. contributed to many of the nation’s most famous skylines. He significantly contributed to the completion of many high-profile projects, including Atlanta City Hall, the Georgia Dome, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Philips Arena, and Turner Field which was converted to GSU’s Center Park Stadium, the current home of our football program.
Over its 35-year history, the prestigious Four Pillar Tribute has recognized highly accomplished individuals who have demonstrated great leadership in metro Atlanta and Georgia. After Russell’s passing in 2014, his children took up the mantle of leadership, honoring his legacy. This year’s event will be the first time Council for Quality Growth will honor the living legacy of a family with a special award and tribute.
I’m thankful for Georgia State University’s partnership with The Herman J. Russell, Sr. Center for Entrepreneurship. Over many years, GSU’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute has collaborated with the center to offer our students access to Business Model competitions, influential speaker series that featured prominent entrepreneurs who shared meaningful stories and insights, and “Motivational Author Talks” that connected students, alumni and other members of the Atlanta entrepreneurial community with award-winning authors.
Congratulations to the Russell family. GSU is proud to be a sponsor for this event and we look forward to continuing to partner with The Herman J. Russell, Sr. Center for Entrepreneurship. The legacy continues!
All the best,
