Dear Panther Family,
We are well on the way to a trifecta at our downtown campus in Summerhill with football, basketball, and now baseball, thanks to the University of Georgia Board of Regents’ approval of the university’s proposal to build a baseball stadium.
The GSU baseball program will move from its current facility located 12 miles away in Panthersville, to its new, 1,000-seat stadium. It will be constructed on the current location of Georgia State's Green Lot along Pollard Boulevard, just north of Center Parc Stadium, the home of Georgia State football and the headquarters for the athletic program, and just south of the new Georgia State Convocation Center, the homecourt for our basketball teams.
Following last week’s approval, the University System Office and GSU staff will proceed with design and construction in accordance with the Board of Regents’ procedures. The statue of home run king and Atlanta Braves legend, Hank Aaron, which currently sits in the entry plaza at Center Parc Stadium, will be moved to the new baseball site. The stadium is planned for completion in February 2025, in time for the start of the 2026 season. With a budget of $15.85 million, the stadium is funded by GSU Athletic Association gifts and reserves and Foundation funds and gifts.
This expansion is right in line with the mission of the university and our newest strategic plan, Blueprint to 2033. We are excited about how this incredible milestone will impact student success, student engagement in athletics, and expand GSU’s reputation. The new stadium will promote placemaking and belonging for our entire Panther community as it provides additional opportunities for our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to network, connect, and have fun together.
Great leadership from our athletic director, Charlie Cobb, vice president of facilities, Ramesh Vakamudi and his colleagues in Facilities Management Services, general counsel, Kerry Heyward and the Office of Legal Affairs, and executive vice president and COO, Jared Abramson and his colleagues in business operations. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and who will soon contribute to making our new baseball stadium a reality.
All the best,
