Dear Panther Family,
I hope you have had an incredible Homecoming Week! It has been amazing to see all of the activity across our campuses and so many of our students, staff and faculty get into the Panther spirit.
I’ve loved seeing each campus bring their unique flavor to the week. From a costume contest at Newton to roller skating at Alpharetta to a drive-in movie at Clarkston, our personalities around Perimeter and college town downtown have been on full display! Students are the heart of any university, and this week has been a welcome reminder of why we do what we do.
Dr. Bridget and I have loved engaging with you at events this week. As we rode in the golf cart parade through the heart of our downtown campus today, I was struck again at how much a part of the city we are. It is so rewarding to see Hurt Park activated and thriving. It was awesome to see our neighboring businesses cheer and wave as we passed by. Placemaking at its best.
We also got a chance this week to see our amazing Convocation Center in full swing. I got to lace up and give the new basketball court a spin during our annual students vs. staff basketball game where we managed to eke out a win against some stellar students. I’m relieved to say I was able to walk the next day and that all my systems were still functioning. Later that night, the real GSU basketball stars took to the court and showed off their skills. I cannot wait to see our women’s and men’s teams in action this season.
I hope to see you all at our football game Saturday where we can continue the Homecoming celebration. We’ll take on Old Dominion, welcome back alumni and our community and cheer on our Panthers. There’s truly no place like GSU and I’m so glad we’re home.
Go Panthers!
