Dear Panther Family,
I am excited to announce some changes in our senior organizational structure that will continue our strategic growth and further Georgia State’s mission and goals.
As you know, our administration has been focused and committed to enhancing our working environment for faculty and staff regarding both our university’s pay equity and human resources processes and procedures. Two key initiatives at the start of my tenure were the initiation of a compensation study and the implementation of an assessment of our human resource processes and procedures. I am so pleased with the progress we have made under Ann Williamson’s direction. While I look forward to sharing those results soon, early reports indicate that our organizational structure could be fortified to better address future planning in these areas.
We have made incredible progress in our financial management under Jerry Rackliffe’s leadership, and I want to continue to improve our business processes and operating models with an eye toward the future. At this time, I believe we can place even more focus on strategic, university-wide financial planning and budgeting across human resources, facilities and financial management.
To that end, I am excited to announce a new position that will concentrate on the intersection between human resources, financial management and facilities with a focus on multiyear strategic resource management. This new role will oversee these existing three areas in addition to a new unit that will focus on future financial planning and operations.

L. Jared Abramson
Longtime higher education and health care financial administrator L. Jared Abramson will join Georgia State as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer beginning Aug. 1. Jared and I worked together at George Washington University (GW) and the University of Miami (UM), and I have seen firsthand how he builds bridges, leads through challenges and approaches the work with a data-driven, analytical mind. I know he will be a terrific addition to Georgia State.
At GW, Jared served as Vice President for Financial Planning and Operations where he was responsible for creating and maintaining GW’s long-range strategic financial plan as well as the annual operating and capital budgets. He was also responsible for university-wide business intelligence and financial management functions. Before joining GW, Jared was vice chairman for administration and finance for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami. He previously served as director of strategic planning in UM’s vice provost for research office. Prior to UM, he managed data services for the Association of American Medical Colleges.
As we look ahead toward our strategic planning and move into the future, I know we are poised to do even more great work at Georgia State together.
All the best,
