Meet Laura Voisinet
Laura L. Voisinet was raised in western New York along the Niagara River. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Towson State University and later earned a master’s degree in mathematics at Virginia Tech. She received a second master’s, in statistics, from the Pennsylvania State University.
Voisinet has served in numerous professional and service positions, including finance manager at an independent kindergarten through 12th grade Waldorf School in Michigan. She spearheaded accreditation of two independent schools, taught algebra, mathematics and fitness, worked as a counselor at Harvest Hope Food Bank in South Carolina and served on the Financial Assessment Committee for Habitat for Humanity in South Carolina.
Voisinet is married to Mark P. Becker, who assumed the presidency of Georgia State University in January 2009. In September 2012, Voisinet started the Women’s Philanthropy Initiative with a committed group of Georgia State women leaders and friends to encourage giving for scholarship funds. Passionate about education and the arts, she serves on the boards of the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State, the university’s Library Ambassador Board and the Theatrical Outfit Board. In addition to serving as Georgia State’s chief ambassador, Voisinet is active in the community, serving on the Virginia-Highland Civic Association and volunteering for a number of non-profit organizations.
Becker and Voisinet have two adult children, Matthew, 26, and Julia, 23.
